Matthew 27:23-25

²³ He asked, “What has he done wrong?”

But they kept shouting louder and louder, “Let him be crucified!”

²⁴ Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that a riot was about to break out instead. So he took some water and washed his hands in front of the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this man’s^[a] blood. Attend to that yourselves.”

²⁵ All the people answered, “Let his blood be on us and our children!”
